A society for atheists, rationalists, secularists and humanists
I was going to blog live from the societies fair in the Riley Smith Hall today but we got a bit busy so I didn't have chance.
Unlike previous years, this year each society only gets one day in the Riley Smith Hall and Tuesday was the day for faith and culture which includes us.
Having got to bed just before 4am, I've now been up since 7:30am this morning (well technically, yesterday morning now) to get everything ready. So as you can imagine, I'm rather tired now :p.
The day didn't go too badly, we got quite good conversation rates in terms of signing up paid members rather than just mailing list subscriptions but perhaps that is due to the lack of people who joined the mailing list ;). We talked to a lot of people though so I'm hoping for a good turn out at our intro meeting next Tuesday.

Richard Dawkins' new TV show starts tonight at 8pm on Channel 4 (with the concluding part next week at the same time I believe).
We've been nominated for a Riley award! I'm actually disappointed, we were put forward for three but were only shortlisted for one of them. I've appealed against one of the decisions though, I mean losing our to product design society - what is that about?!?
The awards take place this Friday so we'll have to see what happens.

Next year we will hopefully be able to do a whole lot more than we have this year (not that our schedule wasn't packed this year!) so be prepared for a kick-ass first semester in September.
It's official! Well actually it's not. But I am reliably informed that we were approved at the societies assembly at Tuesday and are now a ratified society of the union. Go us!
Things are happening. We now have a constitution and have finalised the aims and objectives and such so I am planning to sort everything out and go talk to Jess today. Hopefully it should be all sorted in time for the deadline to submit to the next Union Council meeting and get the society ratified.
We have now got enough signatures to complete the petition to get official formation at Leeds University!
I'm not really sure what I am going to do with the site and blog at this stage but the formalising of the society is going ahead nicely. I think I am going to move the site to a sub for when we (hopefully) add more chapters at various universities to the organisation. At the moment I just want to keep a log of what is going on with the society.
I am still looking for a committee member at LU and plenty of signatures too but if all else fails I can just get randoms to sign it. I have some potentials lined up for the possible place too.
It's still a most basic affair but our holding page has now been replaced with a page explaining a bit about the society and some basic information. More will be coming soon!
