Membership opens

Author: Norman, Tags: News, Society

Today is the first day of A-Soc's new year! Our session for 2008-2009 has officially started!

So, what does this mean for you?

Well, membership is now open for returning members! All we need is your money and an update of any details - name, student number (if applicable), mobile number and email address. The committee will be armed with membership forms at meetings and socials until Intro Week which starts on 22nd September. The memebrship fee is unchanged for this year, so for the ridiculously cheap price of £5 you will have access to all the wonderful beenfits of being part of the university's only forum for rational, free thought:

- Invites to all our events, talks and debates.
- Weekly newsletter.
- Membership pack, containing information on us and everything we do as well as our famous wristband.
- Discounts on our socials.
- £10 discount on our trip to London.
- Automatic membership of the National Federation of Atheist, Humanist and Secular Student Societies.
- New for this year, a membership card that rewards you for getting your money's worth from A-Soc in the form of free drinks!

So see a committee member this Tuesday at the first social of the new year, Old Bar at 7pm!

New website launched

Author: Chris, Tags: News, Website

Our new website has now officially launched! We're still working on it and there will be some more changes before September but for now I will talk about the changes that we have already made.

New features: we have a photo gallery! With photos from some of our best events over previous years that will bring back lots of memories for our long standing members, I know they did for me.

We also have the store launched now so if you fancy a t-shirt or hoodie then head over there.

Improved features: we've added an RSS feed for our events which you can find on our all new RSS feeds pagge which links to the new and easier, more memorable URLs.

We've rewritten the about us page and added loads of new information about the society. We've now got links going all over the place too to things such as our Facebook group and Secular Portal.

Indeed we have rewritten most of the site and updated all the page content to bring it up to date.

New website

Author: Chris, Tags: News, Website

We're currently working on re-doing the website given that summer is upon us and we will have a fresh intake of students joining the society in September.

The new website will not really change design wise, we won't be altering the layout or design too much, we will more be playing with the content as that is the most important part after all.

The new site will focus on providing more information on what the society actually does and will feature a few more rich media sections too. We'll keep you posted on development.

Well that's it folks, term has finished and Atheist Society has officially ended for the year.

Don't worry though, we will continue to run our weekly socials in the Terrace every Tuesday from 7pm. Come along and enjoy the summer with A-Soc.

Remember summer camping is only a few weeks away now so if you fancy joining us for some outdoor fun then get in touch with Chris or Norm.

Good luck for all those getting results and have a great summer!

Riley Awards 2008 nominations

Author: Chris, Tags: News

The nominations of the 2008 Riley Awards have been announced and A-Soc has been shortlisted for the best publicity award.

Unfortunately the union has decided not to shortlist us for best new society or indeed any other category despite the fact we are clearly the best society around but that is how it goes :P.

Back on the metaphorical road

Author: Chris, Tags: News

After a few weeks break over the holidays while the university was closed we're back as of last night when we held our first meeting of 2008!

Things should really get going next week once a lot of people have finished their exams and have a bit more free time. Plus the week after we're starting our One Life course so it's all happening!

New web server

Author: Chris, Tags: News, Website

We've run into some real downtime problems recently so we've now moved to a new, hopefully more stable web server. So major downtime should be a thing of the past.
